Once a wedding taboo, bridesmaids are now donning white on the big day.
Many bridal parties are ditching colours altogether in favour of this flattering neutral, proving that tradition doesn’t always have to remain.
Michele Pennisi, from Michele’s Bridal and Formal Wear in Shepparton, said she had seen a few brides come choose to dress their maids in white or ivory.
Mrs Pennisi said some brides like the lightness that white bridesmaid dresses bring to their wedding, while others choose white because it is the only hue that will match their own dress or the wedding colour scheme.
“(It is) generally somebody who has a darker coloured lining (like taupe or gold), it is sometimes hard to match a colour,” she said.
“It does depend on the maids and if everyone is happy (to wear white) as well.”
Two of this decade’s most high-profile celebrity weddings have had bridesmaids in white, or a variety of the shade.
The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, had her sister Pippa dressed in a form-fitting ivory dress - designed by her wedding dress designer, Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.
Kate Moss opted for the hue to suit her mid-summer wedding; with her 16 bridesmaids and flower girls in white or off-white, and their floaty dresses paired with a white flower-crown.
Other celebrities to dress their bridesmaids in white include Poppy Delevingne and Kim Kardashian, and Jennifer Lawrence wore white as a bridesmaid in her brother’s wedding last year.
