Marking the moment that a marriage officially begins, are the words "you may now kiss the bride". Make it a kiss to remember by maintaining lusciously soft lips.
There is nothing worse than having chapped lips, even in everyday occurrences. It can be painful, ruin the look of your lip makeup, and even put a dampener on that ceremonial first kiss as husband and wife.
Chapped lips can occur simply because of dehydration, or through habits like lip biting and open-mouth breathing.
Prevention is better than a cure, so keep your lips nice and plump using a morning and night sugar-lip scrub for hydration and exfoliation. The oils or waxes in a scrub infuse moisture into the lips, while the coarse sugar removes dead skin for optimum softness.
Below are two at-home recipes you can follow to create a delicious lip scrub.
Oil based
You will need:
An oil of your choice (examples include olive, coconut or argan)
Honey
Sugar (raw or granulated)
A lip balm pot
Optional – essential oils
In a small bowl put about one or two teaspoons of your desired oil. One teaspoon will make about 35g of the final product.
Add a small amount of honey to the bowl - a quarter of a teaspoon is ideal.
Add sugar to the bowl – the amount is up to you depending on how course you want the final product. Add a small amount at first, adding more if you wanted a product with more exfoliating properties. The less you add, the more moisturising the product will be.
Stir the ingredients together.
Optional: The scrub will smell quite sweet due to the honey used, but if you would like to add fragrance to mute the sugary scent add a small drop of your favourite essential oil. Try peppermint for something fresh. Mix well.
Once the product is completely combined, pack it tightly into a small lip balm pot.
Wax based
You will need:
Your favourite lip balm
Petroleum Jelly
Sugar (raw or granulated)
A lip balm pot
Optional - essential oils
Take your lip balm, removing it from its tube or pot, and putting it into a small bowl.
Add a small amount of petroleum jelly to the bowl – the amount is up to you depending on the consistency you want. The more jelly you add the softer the product.
Add sugar to the bowl – the amount is dependent on how course you want the final product. Add a small amount at first, and more for further exfoliating properties. The less you add, the more moisturising the product will be.
Stir the ingredients together.
Optional: The colour and flavours of your lip balm will be prominent in the scrub, but if you would like to add a further fragrance now is the time to add a small drop of your favourite essential oil. Try lavender for a relaxing scent. Mix well.
Once the product is completely combined, pack it tightly into a small lip balm pot.
To use either scrubs: put a small amount onto your finger, and gently rub it along your lips. Rub and smack your lips together a couple of times. Rinse off with warm water and pat lips dry. Voila, soft and kissable lips!
