Hand-making items for a wedding not only saves money, it also adds a personal touch.
One item that couples can create themselves are bonbonnieres, also known as wedding favours.
Homemade raspberry jam and handmade soy candles were the alternate bonbonnieres at the wedding of Steph and Cam Cresswell of Kialla.
“We just wanted to have a homemade something,” Steph said.
Steph had always enjoyed making things and she trialled handmade jams and candles the year before her wedding, just for fun.
Around 70 jams and 100 candles were all made by Steph and put into small individual jars for their guests.
Although some may think the hand-made venture is far too time consuming, Steph only took around four hours to make the jam and six to make the candles.
She ordered personalised labels to add to the jars – both of which were bought online – and used the lace from old curtains to add the final touch to the jam jar lids.
Guests were very impressed with the bonbonnieres, with some keeping the candle as a memento, and the idea even inspired others.
“We have friends that got married around six months after and they also did a jam and candles, not for bonbonniere but for decorations and as part of the table centrepieces.”
A candy buffet also included handmade chocolates in the shape of mini-minor cars, also put together by Steph.
Since the wedding, Steph and her sister Carla have started a small business called Creative Styles, making a variety of homemade items, including hampers. Find them on Facebook.
